Since its establishment, Ross Street Masjid has welcomed many individuals who have chosen to embrace Islam by declaring the Shahādah (Declaration of Faith). Accepting Islam is a simple and sincere act of belief. It requires a person to pronounce the Declaration of Islamic Faith with full conviction, understanding, and free will. For the acceptance of Islam to be valid, it must be entirely free from pressure, coercion, or force.
When a person enters Islam purely for the pleasure of Allah, all previous sins are forgiven, and they begin a new life based on faith, righteousness, and obedience to God. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man who wished to accept Islam:
“Do you not know that accepting Islam wipes out all the sins that came before it?”
(Sahih Muslim)
Declaration of the Testimony (Shahadah)

A person becomes Muslim by sincerely reciting the following testimony with belief and understanding:
“Ashhadu an lā ilāha illā Allāh, wa ashhadu anna Muḥammadan rasūlullāh.”
Translation:
“I testify that there is no true god worthy of worship except Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger and servant of Allah.”
The first part of this testimony affirms the core belief of Islam: that only Allah is worthy of worship, and nothing else shares His divinity.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“And We did not send any Messenger before you except that We revealed to him: ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Me, so worship Me.’”
(Qur’an 21:25)
Shahādah (Reversion) Service at Ross Street Masjid
Ross Street Masjid offers a free Shahādah (Reversion) service for anyone wishing to accept Islam. The process is usually conducted by an Imam or a senior representative of the Masjid. Prior to the declaration, the individual is given the opportunity to ask questions and receive a clear explanation of the meaning of the Shahādah and the core beliefs of Islam.
The individual is guided through:
-
The Arabic transliteration of the Shahādah
-
The English translation
-
A brief explanation of the main articles of faith
Once the declaration is completed, an official Shahādah certificate is filled out, approved, stamped by the Masjid, and presented to the new Muslim.
Islamic literature, guidance, and ongoing support are also provided. New Muslims are warmly encouraged to return, learn more, and become part of the community. Anyone interested in Islam or wishing to accept the faith is welcome to contact the Masjid or visit on Fridays when the centre is guaranteed to be open.
