Divorce Related Matters

At Ross Street Masjid, we understand that marital difficulties and divorce can be emotionally challenging and deeply personal experiences. While divorce is permitted in Islam as a last resort, it is a serious matter that requires wisdom, fairness, and compassion.

Our aim is to provide guidance, support, and appropriate referrals to help individuals and families navigate this sensitive time with dignity, respect, and clarity.

Support for Divorce-Related Matters

Divorce is not only a legal process but also an emotional and spiritual transition. We are committed to offering responsible Islamic guidance and practical assistance to ensure that matters are handled properly and respectfully.

Islamic Guidance on Divorce (Talaq & Khula)

We provide consultation with an Imam regarding:

  • The correct Islamic procedure for Talaq

  • Guidance on Khula

  • Reconciliation efforts where appropriate

  • Clarification of Islamic rights and responsibilities

Our priority is always reconciliation where possible, in line with Islamic teachings. However, if separation becomes necessary, we ensure it is conducted correctly according to Shariah principles.

Documentation & Legal Advice Referrals

While the Masjid does not act as a law firm, we can:

  • Provide guidance on Islamic divorce documentation

  • Refer individuals to qualified family solicitors for civil divorce proceedings

  • Offer clarification regarding the difference between Islamic and civil divorce in the UK

Child Welfare & Parental Responsibilities

The wellbeing of children is of utmost importance in Islam. We provide guidance on:

  • Fair and responsible co-parenting

  • Islamic principles of child custody

  • Maintaining respect and stability for children after separation

We always encourage parents to prioritise the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of their children.

Mediation & Reconciliation Support

Before divorce is finalised, Islam encourages mediation and dialogue. Where appropriate, we can:

  • Arrange mediation meetings

  • Facilitate discussions in a respectful environment

  • Encourage peaceful and mutually agreeable solutions

Our goal is to reduce conflict and avoid unnecessary hardship.

Emotional & Community Support

Divorce can bring emotional strain and uncertainty. We offer:

  • Confidential pastoral care

  • Spiritual advice

  • Community support and guidance

You are not alone during this process, and support is available.

Our Commitment

Whether you are seeking advice, considering separation, or requiring Islamic clarification, Ross Street Masjid is here to provide compassionate guidance grounded in Islamic principles.

We handle all matters with:

  • Confidentiality

  • Professionalism

  • Sensitivity

  • Respect for all parties involved
